At Adaptiva, we know every organization has unique IT requirements, infrastructure preferences, and compliance mandates. That is why OneSite Patch offers flexible deployment options: a fully managed SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) deployment or a self-hosted option that can run on-premises or in your own private cloud environment.
While both deployments deliver the same core patching automation and peer-to-peer content distribution capabilities, there are important distinctions around infrastructure management and client communication.
Whether you are evaluating OneSite Patch for the first time or considering a transition from on-prem to SaaS, this document will help clarify your options and what to expect from each deployment path. If you have additional questions beyond what is covered here, contact the Adaptiva Solutions and Customer Success teams for more help.
What deployment options are available for Adaptiva OneSite Patch?
Adaptiva OneSite Patch can be deployed as a SaaS solution or in a self-hosted environment comprising either an on-premises server or virtual machine (VMs). Both deployment models offer the same powerful automation and peer-to-peer content distribution capabilities, allowing organizations to choose the option that best aligns with their IT infrastructure and security policies.
How is OneSite Patch - SaaS deployment different from Self-Hosted?
With the self-hosted deployment of OneSite Patch, customers manage their own infrastructure and are responsible for the following configuration:
-
Server management: This includes setup, maintenance, and updates of the environment.
-
SQL Server licensing and administration: This must be provisioned and maintained by your team.
-
Manual upgrades: Customers are responsible for upgrading both the Adaptiva Server and client software as new versions are released.
Note
If you are using Adaptiva OneSite Anywhere or OneSite Health, there is only support for self-hosted deployments of OneSite Patch.
By contrast, a SaaS deployment offloads infrastructure, updates, and database management to OneSite Patch to manage.
Are all Adaptiva products available with a SaaS Deployment?
At this time, only OneSite Patch is available with a SaaS Deployment. Additional Adaptiva solutions may be added over time, based on demand and customer feedback.
Why should I consider a SaaS deployment?
-
No infrastructure to maintain: There is no need to manage servers, storage, or software updates. Adaptiva handles it all for you.
-
Elastic and highly scalable: The platform automatically scales to meet your needs, whether you are supporting hundreds or hundreds of thousands of endpoints.
-
Reduced IT overhead: You do not need a large team to manage the environment, freeing up your IT staff to focus on higher-value initiatives.
-
High availability and reliability: Built-in redundancy and failover ensure your services are always on and accessible.
How is content distributed in the cloud?
Content distribution works the same in both SaaS and self-hosted models. Content is delivered using the unique peer-to-peer protocols of Adaptiva with a backup to the built-in Adaptiva CDN, which is automatically set up to ensure fast, reliable, and efficient delivery across your environment.
How do I manage my on-premises network topology with SaaS?
You can configure on-premises detection policies using criteria such as IP address ranges, DNS resolution, or ping response. This enables the platform to automatically differentiate between internal and external clients and adjust its behavior accordingly. The rest of the network topology remains the same, whether you are using a self-hosted or SaaS deployment. Even with the SaaS option, local peer-to-peer (P2P) content distribution is still fully supported—ensuring efficient delivery within your internal network.
How are administrator and user access managed?
In OneSite Patch - SaaS Deployment, all administrative accounts and identity providers (e.g., SAML, OIDC) are managed through the OneSite Cloud Portal. This centralized approach provides enhanced security and streamlines access control.
Can I use the same workflows or integrations from my self-hosted environment in a SaaS deployment?
Both versions contain the same workflow engine and activities. However, some server-side workflows may require updates to run in SaaS, especially if they rely on unsigned activities that are not safe in shared SaaS environments.
What if I want to move from self-hosted to SaaS?
Adaptiva is here to help make the transition smooth and straightforward. Moving to the SaaS deployment involves reviewing your existing workflows, integrations, and configurations to ensure full compatibility. Our Solutions team will support you through every step of the process.
Consider the following items:
-
Start by contacting Support. Our team will work with you to plan and execute the migration with minimal disruption.
-
Objects will not be lost.
-
Historical data will not migrate. However, your SaaS deployment will automatically re-acquire the current state, and all dashboards will quickly repopulate with up-to-date information.
Do all the vulnerability management integrations work with OneSite Patch - SaaS?
Yes, integrations with CrowdStrike Falcon® Exposure Management, Tenable Vulnerability Manager, SentinelOne Singularity Platform, and Windows Defender for Endpoint work with both SaaS and Self-hosted deployments.
How is the SaaS environment secured?
Adaptiva OneSite Patch - SaaS is designed with robust security measures to protect customer data and operations. It is hosted in a secure, cloud-native environment. Adaptiva is certified under ISO/IEC 27001:2022, an internationally recognized standard for information security management systems (ISMS). This certification ensures that Adaptiva has implemented rigorous controls for data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Additionally, all communication between clients and the cloud server is encrypted via HTTPS, and only signed, Adaptiva-approved workflows are executed on the server to maintain trusted operations.
