Background

Microsoft only supports their operating systems and applications with security updates for a specific amount of time. For operating systems and applications that have reached their end of support, Microsoft offers Extended Security Updates (ESU) for some products. The ESU allows you to continue receiving critical security updates after the official end of support date. If you have an ESU subscription, Adaptiva OneSite Patch will continue to apply patches to your licensed devices.

Windows 10 reaches its end of support on October 14, 2025. Customers who subscribe to Microsoft’s ESU program can continue to get critical and important security updates. To be eligible to install these updates, devices must be running Windows 10, version 22H2 or later. Also, KB5046613 is recommended as it includes fixes for ESU activation.

Solution 

1. Follow Microsoft’s instructions to license your devices here: Enable Extended Security Updates (ESU) | Microsoft Learn

2. Ensure your devices have the Adaptiva Client Installed and are licensed for OneSite Patch and have the Microsoft Add-on for OneSite Patch.

   NOTE: The Microsoft Add-on for OneSite Patch is automatically included with our vulnerability management integrated solutions: CrowdStrike, Defender, SentinelOne, and Tenable

3. Create a strategy targeting these clients with the product covered by the ESU, e.g. Windows 10 or Windows Server 2012 R2, etc.
4. When new ESU patches are available, the Patching Cycle will be triggered. If approvals are required, you will receive notification to provide an approval before the patches are deployed.
5. Target devices will download and install the patch if they are licensed for the ESU and it is applicable for their device.
